HabiTerre has just been named as a finalist for the THRIVE | Shell Climate-Smart Agriculture Challenge after an extensive global search that drew a pool of over 300 applicants. The finalists to be evaluated and potentially supported by the Climate-Smart Agriculture Challenge include 11 start-up and scale-up innovators who are driving the global transformation to climate-smart agricultural practices.
More specifically, the Challenge will recognize innovations that help farmers by finding: solutions that promote carbon sequestration and avoid emissions while improving soil health; solutions to improve farm connectivity to access carbon markets and carbon financing; and solutions that measure and quantify soil carbon, soil health, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
By using a unique combination of remote sensing, process-based models, and artificial intelligence, HabiTerre is able to scalably monitor, measure, and analyze global and local production and resource use efficiency, including impacts to soil carbon and GHG emissions, to support decisions around the use of land and water resources. This solution is being recognized for its ability to support market and value creation for sustainable agriculture from farm to buyers.
HabiTerre will compete in the Pitch Challenge at the beginning of February, pitching to a judging panel composed of representatives from Shell, THRIVE, John Deere and BASF. The winner will receive up to $100,000 in project funding, the ability to participate in Shell’s GameChanger Accelerator, and to present at the SXSW this March in Austin, TX.
In addition to the live event, the 11 finalists selected to participate in the Challenge will also compete for a prestigious People’s Choice Award.

About Thrive | Shell Climate-Smart Agriculture Challenge
The THRIVE | Shell Climate-Smart Agriculture Challenge aims to identify and support top start-up and scale-up innovators who are driving the global transformation to climate-smart agriculture practices. The challenge aligns with Shell’s Powering Progress strategy and the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals.
HabiTerre’s mission is to secure a sustainable future for the planet by empowering individual players to increase their profits with better decision-making around land and water resources. We use remote sensing, process models, and artificial intelligence to evaluate past, present, and future cropland performance, including crop rotation, management history, yield, water use, nutrient dynamics, and carbon sequestration. With a methodology that starts at the field level, allowing aggregation across any global region, we offer critical insights to businesses throughout the agriculture value chain.
